Kevin James Breaux is an award-winning artist and author. He grew up in PA, but moved to OR in 2009. He spent years in art school dreaming of becoming a professional comic book artist so that he could see his creations come to life in pen & ink. It was not until his final year at Temple University that he realized writing could fulfill that dream.
Kevin's career as a writer began in 2007 when his first short story sold for $50. His first move, after celebrating the sale, was to join the Horror Writers Association (HWA). His debut novel SOUL BORN, an epic fantasy, was published by Dark Quest Books in 2010 and the book won First Place in the Sci-fi & Fantasy category of the P&E Reader’s Poll. Kevin is experienced with on-line social communities and has a growing fan base on Goodreads, Twitter and Facebook. As a skilled graphic artist he has created magazine print ads and YouTube book trailers to support his book. Kevin also maintains two active blogs that contain his interviews, articles and guests posts published on the web.
Kevin enjoys writing e-stories to provide incentives for readers of his works. Lastly, in 2011 he has sold three short stories; two were released in printed anthologies and is now a staff writer with fantasy-faction.com, and contributing writer for Suspense Magazine. Both allow him even more access to readers in his genre.

Synopsis of Dark Water: Beaming Smile
Sarah should have left Montgomery County when she had the chance, but now it's too late. She is trapped on the rooftop of her family home which is almost completely submerged by dark flood waters. The air smells of a mixture of sewage and mold and it’s still raining. Alone with only her thoughts Sarah is mad she did not leave town years ago when she was right out of high school, before she became the one things she dreaded most; her mother.
Haunted by the reoccurrence of an eerie thumping sound, Sarah is startled when she discovers a large hairy animal, almost the size of a cow, brushing against the corner of her house. What is it? Where did it come from? What other horrors are hiding in the dark water?
A peek inside
There was that noise again. It sounded soft, not like a wooden beam or other piece of hard debris as I first imagined it was. I crept across the roof slowly, my shoes were soaked and their grip on the slick shingles was iffy at best. If I was to survive until a rescue team arrived I would need to stay out of that dark water.
Thump, thump. I heard it again as I inched my way to the back of my house. I could see the water levels had reached up to the windows on the second story of the house. There was no doubt in my mind that the flood water had filled the inside all the way to the attic by now. Everything inside was ruined. All those memories gone, I would certainly have no reason to—thump. God, that sound was loud.
After shaking the flashlight a few times I pointed it down towards the back door off the kitchen. The darkness of the night and the pitch black water swallowed almost every inch of illumination the flashlight gave me. A pack of matches or an old cigarette lighter would have worked as good. Gazing down for some time, I saw the edge of my house. The flood water was churning around; moving like the gentle waves of that bay in the Gulf of Mexico my parents once took me to when I was ten.
There in the water I saw a kerosene tank, probably the one we had in the barn. It bobbed up and down like a buoy, occasionally clanging against the house, but it wasn’t making that weird thud. As my eyes examined the tank I heard my mystery sound. It was so close I felt it rattle my ears. Pivoting my body to the right, where the sound came from I inched myself to the tip of the roof, above the back door. Peering down, my fading flashlight revealed something large and furry.
