Celebrities to perform For Africa Famine Relief in Washington, DC

Oct. 6, 2011 - PRLog -- November  2011 - Washington, DC, November 8, 2011 -- Worldwide Comedy Entertainment  (WWCE) is continuing  its  “Comedy  for a Cause Tour” event on  Friday November 4th with 7:30 PM and 9:30PM Show times at the beautiful Gala Theater  in Washington, DC.  

Presented by Worldwide Comedy Entertainment www.worldwidecomedyent.com, The “Comedy  for a Cause Tour” will bring together supporters and fans of comedy for a thrilling evening of comedy  Featuring  Esther Ku, Jason Weems and Vince Barnett

Guests attending this unforgettable evening will enjoy performances by some of the funniest touring comedians today.

Esther Ku

Ku recently wrapped filming on The Cookout 2 with Ja Rule, Wendy Williams, Charlie Murphy, Vivica Fox, Jalen Rose and Faizon Love.  She can currently be seen in a national Office Depot ad and an international Volkswagon television commercial. Ku was selected as a finalist in NBC’s Last Comic Standing Season 6. She was also selected by Howard Stern as a finalist in the Hottest Funniest Chick Contest on Sirius Satellite Radio. She has performed in the hit comedy Shear Madness, the longest-running non-musical play in American theatre history.

Jason Weems

Weems  has been seen at the most prestigious “By Invitation Only” comedy festival in the world, The Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal and recently added a featured semi-finalist credit to his name on the hit NBC Series Last Comic Standing.  He also  filmed his first 1 hour comedy special entitled Jason Weems Vol. 1: Intellectual Property.

Vince Barnett

Barnett  has worked with and opened for some of the biggest names in comedy today including like Bill Cosby and Kevin Hart  He’s also appeared on BET’s Bring that week back and recently made his acting debut in the indie romantic comedy ‘The Laundromat’. Some may also remember from from his brief stint on the daytime Emmy Award winning Starting Over. He's one of the most sought after comedians touring today.

A few disturbing statistics about Famine in and it's impact:

In 2001, Somalia was ranked 161 out of 163 countries on the Human Development Index compiled by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).  Poverty is reflected in figures showing 45% of the population estimated to live on less that $1.00 per day.  73% live on less that $2.00 per day.  GDP per capita is estimated to have fallen from US $280 in 1989 to $226 in 2002. Somalia is judged to have the 6th highest child mortality rate in the world.  It has high levels of disease and hunger, poor life expectancy, low literacy, and poor access to clean water.  In 2010 before the famine, 81.2% of Somalis were in poverty and 561,200 were refugees.  Now, in 2011 the US Government has stated that so far 26,000 children under five years of age have died from the current famine.
