Oct. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- A new initiative has been set up to help tradespeople develop their career and become training and health and safety professionals.

Training for Hire has launched a programme consisting of three nationally recognised qualifications with the first stage starting in the next few weeks.

The first stage is based on the City and Guilds Preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector (PTTLS / PTLLS) which consists of five, one-day sessions over a five week period.

Keen to support local organisations, the first courses are being held in Bristol, Birmingham and London.

Once qualified, those who attend will then be able to provide health and safety training, consultancy and advice on site including building sites and other workplaces.

Called ‘You’re Assured - Professional Consultants Programme’ it is dedicated to supporting construction trades, maintenance, engineering and related sectors such as Plant and Tool Hire and making sure those who work in these sectors are competent trainers and health and safety professionals.

Jim Maccall, director at Training for Hire said: “This is a great opportunity for experienced competent tradespeople to attain additional qualifications. Once qualified, they will then be able to provide on-site training for firms and businesses based on their trade and Health and Safety.

“The sector is in need of more qualified people who can deliver health and safety advice to the next generation of technicians. All too often we hear cases of people being told to stop doing something because it is dangerous but not told how they can and should be doing it safely.

“There’s no one better than those who have worked in the trade and understand what’s involved who can then review real work and ensure the best advice is given to keep everyone safe.

“It’s also a great chance for anyone who is looking for a natural next step in their career and still wants to have involvement in their industry.

“In the past anyone interested in either of these qualifications would have to go to three separate providers. What I’m doing is providing a one-stop-shop for all making it far easier for tradespeople with their on-going training and development.

“We’re dedicated to providing the right mix of advice, training, assessment and support to give assured competence of a workforce and these courses are the next step towards that.”

Day one of the first training courses start on:
•   24th October, Bristol (Greenway Centre, Southmead)
•   25th October, Birmingham (Solihull)
•   27th October, London (E16)

With three qualifications built in, those who enrol will complete the City & Guilds PTTLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) at level 3 or 4, the CITB-Construction Skills SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) and the City & Guilds Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Heath & Safety at level 3 or 5.
