Oct. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- Editors Nancy and Biff Barnes will help genealogists and family historians turn their research into books at the Northern California Family History Friday, October 7 and Saturday October 8 in San Mateo.
“Writing a family history presents some unique challenges,” said Nancy Barnes, founder and managing editor of Stories To Tell. “Family historians often want to combine research, documents, artifacts and photos into a book. Most important, they want it to be interesting to read.”
Stories To Tell editors will offer free consultations Friday, October 7, 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 8, 9:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m. at booth #25 at the San Mateo Event Center. Exhibit hall entrance is free.
“Bring us your draft manuscript, finished or unfinished,” says Nancy Barnes. “We’ll show you how to get it into print.”
Stories To Tell, an author services firm, provides manuscript evaluation, editing, book design and publishing consulting services to authors seeking either limited or commercial distribution for their books.
“Not all publishers or printers are the same,” said Barnes. “We help authors choose the best publisher for their books, so that they don’t pay for services they don’t need. We also help them prepare their manuscript for submission and make sure their files will meet the publisher’s specifications.”
Barnes, together with her husband and partner Biff Barnes, will teach two classes for authors:
•   How to Plan and Organize a Family History Book at 3:30 p.m. Friday
•   Family History Books: Editing, Design and Publishing at 10:00 a.m. Saturday.
Both classes are interactive and provide practical ideas, exercises, and tools to help authors jump start a family history book.
