Local Author Attending Canine Cancer Event

Oct. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- Kelly Preston, author of Real Dogs Don't Whisper, will be making a guest appearance at K9 Cancer Walk fundraising event. The event is Sunday October 9th, 9:00am to 1:00pm: William Street Park - Vasona Lake Park 333 Blossom Hill Rd. Los Gatos, CA. Kelly will be available for book signing and questions during the event at the VCA Animal Hospital booth. Real Dogs Don't Whisper highlights two dogs in Kelly's life with canine cancer.

Six million dog are diagnosed with cancer each year and cancer is the number one killer of adult dogs. The K9 Cancer Walks are fundraising events throughout the country that support Morris Animal Foundation's Canine Cancer Campaign. All funds raised at the K9 Cancer Walks go directly toward much-needed research that will help dogs enjoy longer, healthier ˜cancer-free lives. Walk for a cure along the beautiful Los Gatos Creek Trail. After the walk join our panel of expert speakers and learn more about cancer prevention, early detection and the future of cancer treatments and research. Participating in the K9 Cancer walk is a great way to memorialize a beloved dog lost to cancer and create a brighter future for your current companion.

About the authors:

Kelly Preston is, first and foremost, an animal lover. Raised on a ten-acre property in a small town in Pennsylvania, she grew up with horses, rabbits, and - of course - dogs. When she left home after college, she acquired Gizmo, an irresistible Lhasa Apso that started her on a journey full of joys and sorrows, hopes and tribulations, frustrations, endless lessons in patience, and above all else, love. All of this has come at the hands (more precisely the paws) of Gizmo, Betty Boop, Buffy, Carla Mae, and the inimitable Mr. MaGoo.

Mr. MaGoo is a nine-year-old Lhasa Apso and the book's co-creator and co-writer. He is, in his own words, "the alpha and omega of all dogs - in the cutest and sparkiest, most fun-loving package ever." Ignoring Kelly's persistent eye-rolling, Mr. MaGoo has forged ahead with this project in an attempt to, as he puts it, "present the facts from a dog's perspective. In other words, the correct, most accurate, most interesting, only-one-that-matters perspective," to which he adds, simply, "Woof!"
