NorthJersey.com Launches Text Alerts For High School Football Scores

Students and fans can get final scores sent to their cellphones.

Oct. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- NorthJersey.com announces its new text-based service that sends local high school sports scores directly to fans’ cellphones. The service will initially launch with football scores and include public, private and parochial high schools across northern New Jersey.

High school football boasts a large local fan base of parents, coaches and students. With so many games happening across the area, it’s not always possible to get to the field or keep up with the scores. As the area’s leading news site, NorthJersey.com has more reporters covering high school sports than any other local news organization, and has developed enduring relationships with teams and coaches. Using SMS text messaging as a channel to deliver sports scores makes it easy for local sports fans to follow the action from anywhere. Plus, fans and players can now easily track results from rival teams.

“High school sports is extremely popular in our community,” notes Rob Tanenbaum, Local Sports Assignment Editor for The Record. “We have some of the country’s top high school teams.  And while coverage is out there, it’s not always possible to turn on the TV and get scores for the high school level. Text alerts allow us to cover the big games and update our entire fan base during and after the game.”

Final scores on all games are delivered to fans via text message shortly after a game ends. Several games are reported live with updates each quarter. Because this is a text-based service, any fan with a cellphone can benefit from this new feature, not just those with smartphones.

“The texting platform is highly successful at reaching a large audience base with timely information and is ideal for bits of important information like scores.” said Brian Burns, VP/Digital at North Jersey Media Group, parent company of NorthJersey.com. “With high school sports score alerts, NorthJersey.com fills a need that is not currently being met by any other sports franchise and delivers an effective way for our fans to connect with our brand.”

To sign up for SMS text alerts, go to NorthJersey.com/hssports. Once there, find your favorite team on the schedule, click on the green SMS bubble next to the teams you wish to follow and enter your cellphone number when prompted. Alerts are free, but standard text-messaging rates will apply.

Text alerts for scores of more high school sports are slated to follow. Fans will always know the score with NorthJersey.com.
