Kirsty MacColl concert signed Fret-King guitar auction goes live on eBay

Oct. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- An eBay auction for a Fret-King Blue Label Esprit 3 guitar signed by a host of stars at a memorial concert for the late singer-songwriter Kirsty MacColl has begun.

MacColl, who had worked closely with the Cuba Solidarity Campaign for a number of years and regularly visited the country, was killed by a speedboat while scuba diving in 2000.

Proceeds from the auction will be used to buy musical equipment for Cuban music schools to keep the country's musical heritage alive. Since the USA's embargo against Cuba, it has become increasingly difficult for residents to buy new instruments, guitar and violin strings and drum sticks.

Top names including Billy Bragg, Phill Jupitus and Amy MacDonald all signed the guitar at the tribute show on October 10th 2010, the anniversary of MacColl's birthday. The auction will end on Sunday October 10th 2011 at 10pm.

The vintage white Esprit, with a street value of £700, was donated by Fret-King owners John Hornby Skewes & Co. Ltd. through Vintage® guitar endorser, and MacColl's band member, Gary Sanford.

The highest bidder will own a unique item. The artists at the memorial concert who signed the guitar include Alison Moyet, Andrea Corr, Catherine Tate, Ellie Goulding, Brian Kennedy, Eddi Reader, Omar Puente, Kim Wilde, and many more.
