Oct. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- There are many reasons why a Lapland holiday is a great place to be, it is an extremely safe country that has great food and great activities. In the winter months, the magic of Lapland will enchant you and in the summer months, the peace will envelope you and lulls you into a relaxed state.

Lapland is within the Northern part of Europe and is situated within the Arctic Circle; Lapland stretches across Norway, Sweden and Finland and into parts of Russia.  The nearby seas are the Barents Sea, Norwegian Sea and the White Sea.

Lapland is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is inhabited by the (sami people) the indigenous people of Lapland who have actually inhabited parts of Finland, Russia and Lapland for many years. The Sami people will live in parts of Lapland, Finland and Sweden now and rely heavily on the Reindeer as a source of income.

Lapland has a very open landscape that is densely populated with forests, swamps and of course Reindeer.  The main city of Lapland is Rovaniemen and many of the locals go on to attend universities in Rovaniemen in Lapland.  There is historical relevance to settlements in Rovaniemen as far back as the Stone Age when a group of villages and settlements would have been in existence. The inhabitants would have relied on animal husbandry, hunting and fishing to survive. Today Rovaniemen is a very popular place for tourists and hosts many good quality restaurants and places of interest. Many important buildings and universities reside there and it is a very beautiful place to visit.

The traveling to Lapland is quite straightforward from the U.k, Flights are available through independent sources and as part of a holiday package. The flight time to Lapland is about 4.5 hours depending on the flight. The flights will travel direct to Kittilla airport which is quite a small airport and the transfer time to your destination largely depends where your accommodation is situated. There are other ways you can travel and landing at Helsinki is an option and then getting an interconnecting flight to Kittilla.

Lapland is known for the magic of Christmas and many holidaymakers flock there each year in search of Santa, the Northern lights and some of the many attractions on offer. The climate is cold in the winter months and there is lots of snow. The winter lasts for over 200 days in Lapland and the days are short with only approximately 3 hours daylight. The light in the winter months is described as a half light known as (twilight).  The snow will begin to melt during late April and will melt faster down in the villages. The month of May see’s the slopes close and the spring arrive quickly, the spring will see many beautiful colours and is known as Ruska time.

The summer months see the midnight sun where there is 24 hour light for a couple of weeks and this is when the many different sorts of wildlife will make themselves known. The brown bear is well out of hibernation and there are certain activity centres where you can go and watch the brown bears in their natural habitat.

Lapland is a beautiful place to visit whatever time of year you visit and there is certainly plenty to keep you busy with all of the attractions on offer.
