Pursue your passion son, but figure out how to make money doing it.

Sept. 29, 2011 - PRLog -- From the Desk of Wayne Jones,

I heard that line in a movie but can’t remember the name of it.  A father was listening to his son trying to determine his major before going to college. I never forgot that because the statement rings of the basic instinct that we all have.  If only we could figure out how to make money pursuing our passion. I always have admired the individuals with the creative talent to produce a product without the need of anyone else.  I have met painters, sculptures, photographers, plumbers, electricians, handy men, musicians that could survive anywhere by doing what they had a passion for.

I heard a story about a successful entrepreneur that at one point in his life was laid off from his job. Sitting around the dinner table one night he was discussing his situation with his family and telling them they had to tighten their belts because he could not find a job. Out of the mouth of his young son came the spark of an idea that has made this man and his family wealthy. The story I heard was as follows:

Each Christmas the family would buy candy and nuts in bulk and repackage them into gifts for their friends and family. When the father explained his current inability to find employment at the dinner table his son suggested that they go into business buying and repackaging candy and nuts and selling them instead of giving them as gifts. The father started a Small business doing just that.  I know of this company because every week my secretaries would disappear from the office into the hallway of our office building and return with bags of candy, chocolate covered peanuts, gummy bears, cashews, licorice, and every kind of candy you could imagine. That was the biggest thing in our building each week. Today the company has a big warehouse in Colorado where they package their products. They also have a large number of sales people as well as retail stores selling their products.

I hear so many times from people that the job they are grinding at is not what they would have liked to have devoted their lives to. Our passion is hidden in all of us and it comes out every now and then to remind us of the choices we have to make. My passion was music and I played professionally until the hard reality hit.  It wasn’t in the cards for me to make a living as a musician.  It is still my passion. I got married and it became an issue about basic physiological needs. I needed to make a living. There was a caption on an advertisement that I will not forget.  It was simple “The joy is not in just living, but in living well”. Living well to me would be living my passion.

Some time’s a Business opportunity is right in front of us and it just takes the right spark to ignite the flame to make it happen. Sometimes it is a crisis like having your career terminated by no fault of your own.  Like the candy man, keep an open mind and look around, your opportunity could be right in front of you and you have just not seen it.

American Association of Government Finance (AmAGF) specializes in SBA loan packaging & loan placement. Start-ups and established businesses are eligible!

Our services are needed because the Small Business Administration (SBA) and other government entities such as the USDA require that loan requests be prepared under rigorous guidelines in order to be reviewed and approved.

You are not required to use a loan packager to get an SBA loan. Some banks will work with you on putting together the paperwork SBA requires for a loan. In those cases, the lender will charge you a packaging fee.

If you want to put together a package you can "shop to several banks" or if your Lender does not have an in-house SBA staff and wants to provide you with that financing option, we can work with you to get the documentation SBA needs to process the loan quickly
