Disney Co-Sponsors Free Arts Day at Five Acres

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep. 29, 2011 - (ALTADENA, Calif.)—On Sept. 17th, Free Arts for Abused Children teamed up with Disney to co-sponsor a Free Arts Day for the abused and neglected children of Five Acres. The “Around the World” art workshops took place at Five Acres’ main campus and included mask making, global jewelry making, and Batik t-shirt making. Disney volunteers used art as a bridge to connect with the vulnerable children of Five Acres, dedicating their morning to facilitate various art workshops for the children and their families, and ended the day with a pizza lunch.

Free Arts serves not only children in foster care, but also those who are homeless and at-risk because of factors such as poverty, substance abuse and community violence. Recognizing the healing power of art in the lives of children, Free Arts conducts art workshops to give children the gift of creative expression.

ABOUT FIVE ACRES
Five Acres is a child and family services agency in Altadena that strengthens families and prevents child abuse through treatment and education in community-based and residential programs.  Originally founded as an orphanage in 1888, today Five Acres offers an array of services including a residential treatment center, a non-public WASC-accredited school, mental health services, foster care, adoption services and domestic violence prevention.
