Follow on Google News | MotivatEd launches National Curriculum-linked rugby website with Premiership Rugby and The RugbyCambridge based e-Learning specialist MotivatEd has partnered with Premiership Rugby and the Rugby Football Union (RFU) to create Rugby World Cup 2011 learning resources for The Rugbee Ground – a new rugby-themed website for teachers and pupils.
By: MotivatEd Ltd One such resource module focuses on the bidding process involved in becoming the host nation of a future Rugby World Cup, encouraging pupils to research the process, detail their findings and create their own bid presentation. Another module focuses on numeracy and the importance of angles in relationship to rugby passing and kicking. As well as a comprehensive set of downloadable lesson plans and suggested activities for teachers, the site will feature several exciting games for students that reinforce rugby-themed literacy and numeracy learning - whilst engaging strongly with pupils through interactive digital media. A major new interactive entertainment and learning zone called Rugbee, developed in association with and themed around Aviva Premiership Rugby, will launch on The Rugbee Ground site in October 2011. All of the site resources have been developed with the input of specialist groups of practising teachers to ensure that they are of maximum use. They are written for teachers by teachers and therefore are directly applicable to the specific educational stage and the current teaching environment. Wayne Morris, Head of Community at Premiership Rugby, said: “The Rugbee Ground will be an exciting extension of Premiership Rugby’s community activity, providing teachers with high quality resources and helping students improve their literacy and numeracy in an engaging and fun way. We are delighted to be working with both MotivatEd and the RFU to use the power of rugby’s leading brands to help raise academic achievement.” Mark Saltmarsh, National Schools Development Manager at the RFU, said: “We are launching a host of resources to help schools alongside the profile of the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. We aim to support school improvement by giving teachers tools that help them engage students in school and their learning. Working with MotivatEd and Premiership Rugby means that we can provide attractive and professional teacher resources which are instantly available for free online.” Phil Clegg, CEO of MotivatEd said: “It’s really exciting for us to be working with Premiership Rugby and the RFU on this project. We specialise in engaging educationally with children through their love of sport and the Rugby World Cup 2011 has given us an incredibly rich and exciting source of material on which to base the first set of pupil-friendly digital resources.” The Rugbee Ground site can be accessed at www.rugbeeground.com End.
