Sept. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- In recognition of the Texas home cooking fixture, Norma’s Cafe, the original Dallas dining icon serving Texas home cooking for 55 years, will celebrate the first official Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day on Oct. 26 at its two Dallas locations.

In 2010, Norma’s Cafe owner Ed Murph, along with other restaurateurs across the state, petitioned the state legislature to create a day that would mark the significance of this classic home cooked dish. This caught the attention of Rep. Ralph Sheffield (R), District 55, Temple, Texas, and owner of Las Casas Restaurant, who wrote and signed a proclamation (HR 1419) with Governor Rick Perry to declare October 26 as the official Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day.

“Norma’s Cafe’s chicken fried steak is a guest favorite during breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s one of the top comfort food inventions of all time, and we wanted to pay tribute to the dish that has long been a Texas tradition – and one of ours for more than 55 years,” said Ed Murph, owner of Norma’s Cafe. “We look forward to commemorating this special day of peace, love and chicken fried steak with our friends and customers on Oct. 26.”

Restaurants participating in the first official Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day across the state include: Blue Bonnet Cafe, Marble Falls, Texas; Bone Daddy's, Arlington, Texas; Hoover's Cooking, Austin, Texas; Paris Coffee Shop, Fort Worth, Texas; Las Casas, Temple, Texas; Parkway Grill, Wichita Falls, Texas; and Perini Ranch Steakhouse, Buffalo Gap, Texas.

“We are very excited to join the celebration of one our state’s favorite meals, and hope to continue the tradition for years to come,” said Hoover Alexander, owner of Hoover's Cooking in Austin. “This is a statewide celebration for friends, folks and family. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”

Both Norma’s Cafe locations will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day to serve its “eNORMAus,” award-winning chicken fried steak – seasoned, double dipped, fried golden brown and smothered with cream gravy.
