Barry T. Katzen, M.D., of Miami receives national recognition for excellence

The Vascular Disease Foundation honors Barry T. Katzen, M.D., with top award presented annually in recognition of outstanding contributions to physician education, leadership and patient care in vascular disease.

Sept. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- MIAMI, Fla. – Barry T. Katzen, M.D., of Miami Beach is the 2011 recipient of the Vascular Disease Foundation’s most prestigious award, the Julius H. Jacobson II M.D. Award for Physician Excellence.

Katzen is the founder and medical director of Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute in Miami, where he has been advancing the science and clinical practice of endovascular interventions for nearly 25 years. He is clinical professor of radiology and surgery at Florida International University’s Herbert Werthein College of Medicine. He also is professor of radiology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, a position he has held for 23 years.

A pioneer of numerous less-invasive endovascular therapies, Katzen has been a national site principle investigator for multiple clinical research trials for aneurysms, carotid artery disease and peripheral artery disease. He has published extensively in medical journals, textbooks and other scientific literature, and he has presented lectures throughout the world. He also developed the use of the “live-case” tutorial for vascular education, which has evolved into a standard teaching tool for procedure-oriented specialties. Katzen serves as a course director for the annual International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy in Miami.

The Julius H. Jacobson II MD Award for Physician Excellence is presented annually by the Vascular Disease Foundation in recognition of outstanding contributions to physician education, leadership, or patient care in vascular disease.
