Sept. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- RALEIGH, N.C. (September 28, 2011) — The weather last Saturday was rainy- and muddy!  Enthusiastic runners and volunteers from the Triangle and surrounding areas participated in the first ever Mud Run MS Carolinas held at Camp Butner just north of RTP.  The Eastern NC Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society together with Mud Run, LLC and presenting sponsor, Gregory Poole Equipment Company, welcomed 982 participants and 100 volunteers for a 10K (6.2 mile) adventure course featuring more than 40 boot camp style obstacles surrounded by or made entirely of mud.  To date, $212,000 has been raised to support the 5,400 people in Eastern NC living with multiple sclerosis, a chronic, often disabling disease.  The fundraising deadline is October 24.  Donate online at www.mudruncarolinas.org.

The rain did not stop the participants from donning crazy costumes and getting covered head to toe in yellow clay.  Throughout the morning and afternoon runners screamed down the giant slip n’ slide, ducked under floating logs, and crawled through muddy tunnels.  Just to name a few.  At the completion of the run, participants were greeted with a hot meal from Backyard Bistro, cold beer and fire hoses.

Barbara on Facebook sums of the event by saying, “I was laughing SO HARD…I could barely get up!! If it wasn't for my overalls Kate would've NEVER got me out of that pit!!! She pulled me out by the back of my pants...like a suitcase!!! I'm STILL laughing today!”

To see photos of the obstacles and participants covered head to toe in mud, head over to Facebook and search for Mud Run MS Carolinas.  Like the page to keep an eye out for next year’s date and start planning your costume!  You’ll never get this dirty for anything this good!
