Physicians and BioScience Community Invited to Free Biologics and Biosimilars Panel

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep. 27, 2011 - Harrisburg University of Science and Technology will host a panel “Biologics and Biosimilars” that will  bring together key Pennsylvania-based stakeholders—patient groups, physicians, opinion leaders and the bioscience community—to facilitate a policy discussion on biosimilars.  The speakers will discuss the development of biologics today and the importance of continued innovation, safety and access to new therapies in a changing biologics environment.

Biosimilars are biological products that are “highly similar” to or “interchangeable” with innovator biologics. While the U.S. has a new pathway for approving biosimilars under the Public Health Service Act (PHSA), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is still developing regulatory guidance. As the FDA moves forward in implementing this pathway, Pennsylvania—and other states—will be tasked with forming science-based, patient-centered law and policy surrounding biosimilar medicines.

The event is free to attend and is set for noon to 3 p.m., October 6, at the University, which is located at 326 Market Street. Lunch will be served.

Chris Molineaux, President of Pennsylvania Bio , will moderate the event. Speakers include Eric D. Darr, Ph.D., Provost & Executive Vice President, Harrisburg University; Dr. Phil Gerbino, President Emeritus, University of the Sciences;  Mel Billingsley, Ph.D., President and CEO of the Central Pennsylvania Life Sciences Greenhouse;  Kim Greco, Regulatory Affairs Director, Amgen; Lori Davies, Cancer Survivor and representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
