Sept. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- With a passion to inspire health and overall wellness, Eric Nies – best known from MTV’s The Real World: New York – has joined forces with The Right2Know March to advocate for the labeling of Genetically Engineered Food in the United States. Nies and his trusty sidekick Sugar Ray the Dog will rally and walk alongside countless others from New York City to Washington, D.C. – 313 miles in total – in an unprecedented stance for public health.

For the past fifteen years, Nies has traveled the world advocating for wellness through nutrition.  After hearing about companies developing genetically engineered food crops without consumer’s knowledge, Nies was convinced more than ever that he had to stand up and make a difference.  Genetically engineered food labeling is widely debated because many consumers have no way of knowing if the foods they are feeding their families have been genetically engineered to contain new proteins.

“Americans are eating genetically modified food without their knowledge and they should at least have the option of choosing whether they wish to consume these types of foods,” said Nies.  “If there has been any alteration to the seeds or the plants that we consume, we have a ‘Right 2 Know.’  It is my hope that through this movement we will be able to bring this agenda to the forefront of decisions makers and make a difference.”

Very much like Nies’ journey to wellness, Sugar Ray has his sights set on changing the world, one paw print at a time.  Many will remember Sugar Ray from when he once ventured out on to a frozen lake, only to fall in and be saved by his owner Nies.  Upon emerging from the frigid water Sugar Ray showed no signs of slowing down. Together with Nies, he has spent weeks on end in the hot desert, drinking nothing but green juice, while continuing to climb mountains and run countless miles a day.

The Right2Know March kicks-off October 1 with a rally at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, followed by the marchers walking across the Brooklyn Bridge to the United Nations.  From there, the marchers will rally throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland, with the final stop at the White House on October 16 – World Food Day.

Nies will be documenting his journey on the march and posting updates on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/SUGARRAYcooper) and Twitter (http://twitter.com/sugarRayTheDog).  For more information, visit Sugar Ray (http://about.me/sugarRay) or Right2Know (http://www.right2knowmarch.org/).
