Sept. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- LOS ANGELES - Trial lawyer Michael Alder of AlderLaw, a leading plaintiffs’ law firm in Los Angeles, has been recognized as one of the state’s Top 100 Lawyers for 2011 by the Los Angeles Daily Journal. The list honors California attorneys doing the most cutting-edge work in litigation, regulation and corporate transactions.

“It’s a privilege to rank among the state’s top legal minds,” said Alder, who founded AlderLaw and is the current president-elect of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA). “It’s especially an honor to represent plaintiffs’ attorneys in the Top 100 and build recognition for the important contributions we make toward improving the odds of individuals who come up against deep pockets and need equally powerful legal representation.”

Alder, 43, is CAALA’s youngest president-elect, and an adamant proponent of raising public awareness of the importance of plaintiffs’ or “consumer” lawyers, especially in the current climate of corporate fraud and abuse. He spearheaded a city-wide billboard campaign where he raised $85,000 from 250 attorneys to fund billboards that point out the good that consumer lawyers do for society. He also is one of five founding members of the Trial Lawyers Charities, which donates money to people and organizations in need in Los Angeles.

He has tried more than 70 cases in his career and has secured more than $100 million in verdicts and settlements for his clients this year alone. In the first two months of 2011, Alder and his team helped secure two major verdicts totaling more than $77 million in California and Louisiana. In one case, he represented a California Highway Patrol officer paralyzed from the waist down after being struck by a car. The $48 million verdict in January 2011 is the largest personal injury verdict in Ventura County history.

Alder recently made headlines when he filed a wrongful death claim against the Los Angeles County MTA on behalf of Janie Garay, whose son was fatally stabbed during a confrontation with a fellow Metro Red Line rider in August 2011. In conjunction with the filing, AlderLaw launched a Web site – http://www.MakeMTASafer.com – that allows the public to submit complaints about safety in the subway and aims to ultimately help make the MTA system safer for the community.
