FSA's Turner Backs High-Frequency Trading Curbs

Sept. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- As reported by The Wall Street Journal’s Steve Goldstein, Adair Turner, chairman of the U.K. Financial Services Authority, on Friday declined an opportunity to support a financial transactions tax as he has in the past but said high-frequency trading restrictions may be needed.

"High-frequency algorithmic trading, we should be very open to consider what it does to our markets," he said during a question-and-answer session at the Bretton Woods Committee conference.

He said at a certain point, it no longer becomes socially optimal to have more price discovery--and said if trading was entirely high-frequency, it would no longer serve any price-discovery purpose.
