Sept. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- At last night’s annual City of London Business Traineeship Awards, City financial firms Société Générale and Mitsubishi UFJ Securities International (MUSI) were recognised for their commitment in providing paid summer work placements to young Londoners from some of the UK’s most deprived boroughs.

Bringing together the brightest young City sparks of the future, the awards were hosted by the Lord Mayor of the City of London Michael Bear at Deutsche Bank, London Wall. The event marked the culmination of this year’s City of London Business Traineeship scheme, a programme funded by the City of London Corporation and delivered by the Brokerage Citylink. This summer, 26 firms in the Square Mile provided over 100 paid work placements, ensuring that high value work experience is available to all, regardless of background.

Having welcomed 12 young trainees to their Square Mile offices, Société Générale won the accolade of Employer of the Year. They heavily invested time and resources in their trainees to help them maximise the opportunity, preparing an array of both individual and group projects. MUSI welcomed a large number of trainees (6) in their first year as a host firm, contributing to the ever expanding reach of the City of London Business Traineeship scheme.

Lord Mayor of the City of London Michael Bear, comments, “The employment market is currently a daunting landscape, especially for young people. It is the role of the City to provide opportunities for bright young people, from perhaps more challenging backgrounds, to ensure they reach their full potential. Both Société Générale and MUSI are exemplary examples of this kind of support in action; not only are they helping their local communities but they are also helping to ensure that the City continues to attract top talent.”

Part of a series of initiatives which bridge the gap between the City and City-fringes, the City of London Business Traineeship scheme is funded by the City of London Corporation and delivered by the Brokerage Citylink.
