America's First Impressionist may never see his Catalogue Raisonne.

An aged still life oil painting with the signature Enneking in the lower right corner has been deemed a possible forgery by one Enneking expert.

Sept. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- John Joseph Enneking was considered America's first Impressionist artist. In France, he painted alongside some of the great masters including Renoir, Pissaro, and Manet. He was best friends with Corot and Millet, and he studied with Bonnat and Daubigny in Paris from 1873 to 1876.

Enneking was notably a Plein Air painter, although like his fellow artists he occasionally painted outside of his usual subject matter. A mysterious painting has entered the light of day, yet may never find its true creator. A still Life floral with a signature very similar to the man in question.

There are too many similarities for the mystery painting not to be by John Joseph Enneking, yet one expert in particular who suggests a possible forgery. But why? Why would anyone paint something so beautiful only to add another artists name? Why, when John Joseph was known for landscapes would someone forge a still life floral? There is no sense to compromise.

The Enneking expert suggests that this is one painting signed Enneking that will NEVER see his Catalogue Raisonne.
