IN MAPS & LEGENDS, a digital-only comic illustrated by Niki Smith and written by Michael Jasper, comes to its explosive, mind-bending conclusion with the launch of its ninth issue on Wednesday, October 5th, 2011.

Oct. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- What started with an off-the-cuff tweet over two years ago now concludes -- nearly 200 pages later -- with a digital bang.

In Maps & Legends, a digital-only comic illustrated by Niki Smith and written by Michael Jasper, comes to its explosive, mind-bending conclusion with the launch of its ninth issue on Wednesday, October 5th, 2011. A collected digital version of all nine issue launches a week later, on October 12th.

You can read the comic in the digital format you prefer, on whichever ebook device you own -- the Android Phone, Windows Phone, or iPhone; the Kindle, the Nook, or the iPad; or on your desktop, laptop, or the Web (PDF, CBZ, HTML, and Flash).

Issues of the ongoing, contemporary fantasy comic are available many different online distributors, including Comixology, Graphic.ly, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple's iBooks, the Google eBookstore, MyDigitalComics, and DriveThruComics. Issues sell for just $.99 each.

The digital comic started with a tweet from artist Niki Smith, who was wondering out loud if any writers had a comic idea she could illustrate. Author Michael Jasper took the challenge, and they soon had an eight-page comic to enter into the monthly competition at the late, lamented Zuda Comics (DC Comics' now-canceled online imprint). They won the contest in November 2009, and the comic ran briefly on the Zuda site until it closed in July of 2010.

Mike and Niki wanted to finish the story, so they published it through UnWrecked Press and signed on with a variety of online distributors, making them true pioneers in the digital comics field and earning them the honor of Digital Creators of the Year in 2010 (from Robot 6).

The target audience for In Maps & Legends includes fans of The Sandman, Unwritten, Fringe, and Lost -- supernatural urban fantasy with a hint of science fiction and horror wrapped up in it.

Here's a quick summary of the final issue:

Thanks to her grandfather, Kaitlin Grayson knows maps and legends. But Kait never would've dreamed that she would one day attempt to save two worlds at the same time, becoming both a map and a legend in the explosive conclusion to this storyline.

In Maps & Legends mixes together urban fantasy, science fiction,  steampunk, with art by Niki Smith and story by Michael Jasper. A winner of the November 2009 Zuda Comics competition hosted by DC Comics, the story concludes here!
