Follow on Google News | Self-Publisher Raises Book's Price 300% "Because I Can!"At the end of October, the list price of the Kindle book "Wordpreneur WordCash Notebook" will go up to $3.99. Until then, the book will still be available in full at Amazon at its current 99 cents.
By: EldonSarte.com "Yes, that's over a 300% price increase," said Sarte, "but since it's only 99 cents right now, it'll still be extremely undervalued at its new $3.99 price tag." Although the content is no longer available on his site -- he essentially "transferred" A serious drop in incoming traffic levels is what initially prompted Sarte to consider moving the posts, removing them as totally free content on his blog since they were "in limbo and of no use to anyone," and putting them all together as a for-pay Kindle ebook for a brand new audience. "No way is the slight uptick in current traffic as high as the old counts," he points out, "so by all accounts, the move to 'paid but very reasonably priced' was and still is a good one all around." So why raise the price 300 percent? "Why not? This is like a Wordpreneur case study in action!" chuckles Sarte. "But all kidding aside, this does involve the kind of wordpreneur thinking all the various posts in the book and the blog discuss. In this case, a number of interesting variables are going to be tested it looks like, made possible of course by no-cost Kindle e-publishing!" What variables? "First, I sense that in certain situations, a reasonable upwards price change creates a positive interest," says Sarte. "I'll see if this hypothesis holds true for this particular title as I think it will. And two, even if the rate of sales drops because of the price increase, the simple math says the book will actually likely end up being more profitable regardless! Definitely at least a few wordpreneur lessons to be learned here. Chances are, once it's all said and done, I'll write up the details of the experience so Wordpreneur readers will all learn from it as well." Sarte did stress that top content quality is critical to maintain a high level of interest and continued sales. "I may have dropped the ball with the title and how it impresses perceived quality," Sarte laughs, "but I've found that once the reader takes a look at the Table of Contents -- a list of the included 145 total posts and articles on Wordpreneur ideas, tools, business and publishing tips, and freelance writing, a guide through the nearly 60,000 words of helpful content in this full-sized digital volume (that's about 240 standard paperback pages) -- the reader is easily sold on its value and quality." The best part, as Sarte loves to reinforce to his readers, is that if these pricing and packaging tests do not bottom line pan out, he can always change back to his old pricing, or test out some other pricing and packaging ideas at absolutely no cost to him out-of-pocket, and with practically little delay. "Beautiful thing about e-publishing, huh?" he muses. "No wonder tons of 'little guys' like me opt to go this route rather than hassle with the traditional publishing houses and their sorely outdated notion of how the business is supposed to operate... and they're slow learners to boot. Definitely an industry worth watching very closely, boys and girls!" Wordpreneur WordCash Notebook is still available at its current price of 99 cents until its price increase, scheduled for around the end of October. "I wouldn't wait if you want to get a copy cheap," warns Sarte. "It's like the Wild West out here -- self-publishers like me are having fun winging it, making up the rules and moving quickly. You never know what'll start itching me price-wise next week!"
