AccuQuilt Two-Tone Foam Dies Reduce Fabric Waste

With contrast-colored foam cutting dies, quilters and fabric crafters can easily see where to place fabric, so every bit of fabric can be used for quilt and craft projects

Sept. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- AccuQuilt, the leader in fabric cutting solutions for quilting and fabric crafts, announced it will begin distributing cutting dies with two contrasting colors of foam for the company’s GO!® and GO! Baby™ Fabric Cutters, eventually producing all dies for those cutters with two-tone foam. The contrasting foam makes it easier to see the shape on each die board, so quilters and fabric crafters can place fabric exactly where the blades cut. That means maximizing the use of every possible inch of fabric with very little waste.

"Two-tone foam dies are a simple but revolutionary improvement in the way we cut fabric for quilting and fabric craft projects," said AccuQuilt National Sales Manager, Linda Pumphrey. "And it’s a perfect example of AccuQuilt’s dedication to evolving our cutting products to meet customers’ needs. We know how agonizing it is for a quilter or fabric crafter to believe they’ve wasted some of their beautiful fabric. These new dies solve that problem, so you can keep on cutting with confidence." The ability to place the fabric precisely will save time that used to be spent checking each cut.

A cutting die is made by bending a steel rule blade into a shape and embedding it in a block of wood or plastic. The blade rises above the surface of the block, and foam is pressed onto the entire block face to provide protection around the blade. The two-tone cutting dies use different colors of foam inside and outside of the design defined by the blade. Patents are pending on AccuQuilt’s two-tone foam innovation.

According to Pumphrey, AccuQuilt will begin producing existing designs with two-tone foam in an ongoing process through the next several months until the entire line is converted. New lines, such as the recently introduced Tried and True group of dies, will include the two-tone foam from now on. Eventually, all AccuQuilt dies, except for strip cutters, will include two-tone foam.

“Consumer quilters and fabric crafters have responded to this new feature of AccuQuilt dies with overwhelmingly positive comments,” Pumphrey said. “It’s helping them get the most out of the GO! cutting experience. They say they are thrilled we found a way to make something so simple even easier!”

GO!® fabric cutting dies, as well as the GO!™ Baby Fabric Cutter and GO!® Fabric Cutter are available at local quilt and fabric retailers.
