UFWC Global Coin received with renewed interest by UN World Leaders at South-South Awards Ceremony

Sept. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- New York  – World leaders gathered for this year’s South-South Awards Ceremony held in New York at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Monday, September 19th 2011 each received a Special limited edition prototype example of the most famous and innovative global coin known worldwide as the United Future World Currency (UFWC). The South-South Awards were organized in association with the opening of the 66th UN General Assembly.

In the presence of H.E. Ambassador Francis Lorenzo, president of the South-South News (a United Nations Development Program sponsored project) the awards were presented to several heads of state / government for their outstanding activities and efforts to foster and promote South-South regional and triangular cooperation on a Global and United Nations system-wide basis. Included with the award was an exact replica of the prototype coins presented to attending heads of State at the G8 summit in L’aquilia Italy in 2009. The commemorative inscription on the reverse side reads “SOUTH SOUTH AWARD” along with the year of issue, 2011

Recipients included Presidents: Paul Kagame, of Rwanda, Abdoulaye Wade, of Senegal; Mwai Kibaki of Kenya; Jaraya Mrisho Kirwete of Tanzania; Leonel Fernandez Reyna of the Dominican Republic; Mrs Shiekh Hasina of Bangladesh; General Seretse Khama Ian Khama of Botswana; Dilma Vana Rousseff of Brasil; first lady Mrs. Dr. Vanda Pignato of El Salvador and Mwai KibaKi president of Republic of Kenya. The UFWC coin was also presented to Dr. Hamadoun I. Toure, Secretary General of the ITU (International Telecomunication Union).

During the presentation ceremonies, Dr. Sandro Sassoli, founder and director of the UFWC took the opportunity to thank H.E. Ambassador Francis Lorenzo and commented about both the South-South awards and the UFWC initiative by adding “At this particular economic and social moment, we need to find unity in our diversity even more, which is the very motto you see on every UFWC coin, - Unity in diversity".


Dr. Sassoli further commented “The UFWC seeks to achieve similar goals of the UN which is a commitment to strength through unity for future generations, to all the people in the world”
 
The general public’s first all-important and “face-to-face” trial encounter with the UFWC currency is scheduled to occur at the Universal Expo in Milan, Italy, 2015.

EDITOR’S NOTES
The United Future World Currency (UFWC) was set up in 1996 as the initiative of Dr. Sandro Sassoli who has been the driving force behind the idea of this project for more than 15 years.

Dr. Sassoli began the UFWC initiative after a meeting and consultation with Prof. Arthur Schlesinger Jr., former counselor to US president John F. Kennedy.

The UFWC was originally begun with the patenting of the trademark “EURODOLLAR” by Dr. Sassoli before the formation of the European Union’s single currency, the EURO in 1997.

The first half ounce gold prototype coins struck by the UFWC were presented to the eight heads of state and government who attended the G-8 conference in L’aquila, Italy in July 2009.

The UFWC came to world-wide prominence and attention at the 2009 G-8 Summit when Russian Federation President Dimitry Medvyedev endorsed the project by holding up his gold coin to the international media covering the summit.

The Soyuz TMA-20 lifted off on the 15th December 2010 from Baikonur, Kazakhstan with a three person crew consisting of Commander Dmitri Kondratyev, Flight Engineer Catherine Coleman and Flight Engineer Paolo Nespoli. The expedition ended on the 24th May 2011 after a 159 day mission.
