Sept. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- Ridgefield, CT.
Richard P. Hastings, a personal injury lawyer with the Ridgefield, CT based firm of Hastings, Cohan & Walsh, LLP recently developed a Parent/Teen Driver Contract to be utilized by parents of newly licensed teen drivers.
As a parent of a teenage boy who was about to get his driver’s license, Attorney Hastings began to think about the many unyielding rules his son would have to follow and the expectations he had of his sons actions as a licensed driver.
Attorney Hastings therefore developed the Teen Driver Contract to help guide parents and teens through discussing and agreeing upon expectations in the form of a written, signed contract. It addresses the common risks that cause most teen driving accidents: inexperience, immaturity, speeding, distractions, and lack of vigilance. The contract covers responsibilities of the teen such as following state laws, grade minimums, restrictions on the use of a vehicle and knowing who gets into the vehicle. It also covers what kinds of support the parents are willing to offer such as expenses or judgment-free alternative transportation to and from parties.
The contract allows parents and teen drivers to proactively address issues that are likely to arise. The teen will then know what they should do, rather than make an uneducated guess.
