Sept. 22, 2011 - PRLog -- There are many reasons as to why you may want to consider purchasing a new furnace. Purchasing a new furnace will help your home become more energy efficient, which is a key reason as to why people will invest the money in a new furnace. Furnaces that are inefficient are bad for the environment because they waste energy, but they also waste your money and you can literally burn hundreds of dollars in unnecessary heating costs when you have an inefficient furnace. Older furnaces are more likely to malfunction and if your furnace is noisy it could be possible that it is not working properly. Sometimes your furnace will break, due to the equipment in the furnace and the repairs are so costly that it makes more sense to purchase a new furnace.

You may find shopping for a furnace difficult considering the many options to choose from. Your furnace is an important part of your home and ultimately is a very large home investment and expense. When you are shopping for a new furnace you want to consider the AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) of the furnace. Of all the furnace types high efficiency furnaces have the best AFUE ratings - 94% or more. A conventional furnace has an AFUE of 60-65%. If you have a conventional furnace you are wasting approximately 35 - 40% of energy for every dollar you spend due to inefficiency. A mid efficiency furnace is in between a conventional furnace and a high efficiency furnace. When compared to a conventional furnace a mid efficiency furnace performs significantly better, with an AFUE rating of 80% you will save 20-23% in gas heating costs. With a high efficiency furnace you can expect to save about 30 - 38% in your heating costs when compared to a conventional furnace. High efficiency furnaces are good for the environment because they cut down on wasted energy and also help you save in heating costs. A high efficiency furnace is a great purchase for your home.

There are three basic types of mid efficiency and high efficiency furnaces that you can choose from, modulating, single stage and two stage furnaces. Single stage furnaces will always run at full capacity, even if you only need your furnace to run at 50% capacity. Ultimately single stage furnaces are not as efficient as two stage furnaces because once you turn it on it will run at full capacity. Single stage furnaces aren't good options for people who want to maintain a temperature in their home. A two stage furnace is a good option if you want to set your home at one temperature and maintain that temperature. As you might imagine from the name, a two stage furnace has two stages or settings. In its first stage, the two stage furnace runs at 65% capacity and only kicks into the second stage where it runs at full capacity when needed. Two stage furnaces provide a more efficient and comfortable way to heat your home because it eliminates temperature jumps. To eliminate the feeling of being too hot or cold in your home produce a constant temperature in your home while also saving money and energy.

When it comes to mid and high efficiency furnaces modulating furnaces are good options for energy efficiency, considering they provide 65 stages of heat output. A modulating furnace uses variable speed by way of an ECM (electronically commutated motor), which will make your furnace quieter, operate longer and reduce operating costs. Modulating furnaces operate for a fraction of the cost of a standard furnace which will save you money on your heating costs. When it comes to electronically commutated motors (ECM) a variable speed blower furnace will provide you with many benefits including reduced electrical consumption of up to 80%. You can improve your air conditioning efficiency by up to 16% with a variable speed blower furnace as well as experience a quieter furnace. A great benefit of an ECM variable speed blower is that you can gain humidity control in your home through your furnace. ECM blower motors modulate heat which improves temperature stability in your home. When hot air rises and cold air drops you are experiencing air satification, a common heating issue in many homes. A blower motor will prevent air satification in your home.

To ensure your furnace runs smoothly you should ensure it is maintained regularly. Waiting until your furnace breaks is not a good idea because not only will it cost more money to fix than regular maintenance would have cost it can also compromise the life of your furnace. Consider your furnace a key house investment and protect it with regular maintenance. You risk frozen, broken pipes if your furnace breaks and you can`t heat your home. Conducting regular furnace maintenance will help keep your home safe and comfortable as well as reduce your heating bills and decrease your energy usage. Furnace maintenance includes ensuring that filters and coils are clean. In addition to having clean filters and coils make sure your exhaust fans, pumps and burners perform well. There are a number of maintenance plans you can purchase that might provide an additional warranty on your furnace parts. Conduct regular furnace maintenance by scheduling maintenance pre season. Regular maintenance will ensure that your furnace performs to your manufacturers specifications for efficiency. .
