Even though there was also a decline in the unemployment rate in Churchill and Lyon, nearly 1,420 are still unemployed in Churchill. Lyon's unemployment rate is 17.3 percent, the worst in Nevada. Carson City's unemployment rate is at 12.7 percent while Douglas County's rate continued to be at 14.1 percent. The ragged construction industry is one of the major contributors to the state's economic stalemate. Excluding the losses in construction industry in 2009, the employment base would have been 7 percent rather than 9 percent; and this year it would have grown one-third of 1 percent. The total number of workers in Carson City is 28,600, with some 3,600 searching for a job. In Reno-Sparks, 28,300 workers of the 216,700 are jobless, while in the Las Vegas, 135,700 of 952,700 workers are jobless.
