A Zest for Zeman
If you haven’t heard of Dr. Allan Zeman, you should have…..especially if you are Asia based.  He is the charismatic entrepreneur behind numerous, and frighteningly successful, business ventures in Asia.  Most renowned is his brainchild, the legendry Lang Kwai Fong, but most significantly for Phuket Relaters, he is known for spearheading Phuket development.  Notably, Andara Phuket, the Surin Plaza shopping centre and the soon to be launched Andara Phase II (Suwandara), 14 stunning villas overlooking Kamala Bay and also Surin Plaza II.  I had the pleasure of attending an intimate chat hosted by Zeman at the stunning Andara on Friday 16th September.

The Man behind the Ze
I’m a sucker for a rags to riches story and Zeman succeeded in romancing the audience with his rise to wealth and fame.  From his paper round at the age of 13 to his arrival to Hong Kong, Zeman’s career it is an inspirational story to this eternal optimist.  BUT, I will avoid the obvious massaging of an ego of a surprisingly humble man.  His story is well documented and autobiographies suggested. Instead, I will select elements of his chat, which resonated with me as a Phuket Real Estate Agent.

In Your Zhoes
Zeman emphasized the importance of putting yourself in the shoes of your client/customer/guest.  This is something we pride ourselves on at Zest Real Estate.  Being in your shoes provokes obvious but vital questions.  

What would I want from my Phuket property?
Would I want to live here?
Is it a good investment?,
What are the strengths and weaknesses of the property?
Most importantly, would I be happy to purchase it?

We recommend investments that we believe in, not properties that aren’t right for you. I don’t wear a short-sleeved shirt with a tie clip so the salesman schpeel is not welcome at Zest. Instead, we offer you advice based on us being the buyer.

Be the Bezt
Zeman gained financial success by, ‘being the best you can be’.  He is not suggesting that you have to be a 5 star resort but, if you are aiming to create a 3 star hotel then be the best 3 star hotel in the world.  The same applies to real estate, everyone has different budgets, desires and needs, the key is to get the very best within your criteria, that is where we come in.  It is about not only being the best but also buying the best.

His philosophy is apparent throughout Andara.  Andara sold all of its villas with original buyers seeing a return on their investment of 100%+. 37 residences sold with only 1 unit remaining (2 bedroom unit).  Comparably, other developments sold just 50% of their portfolio in the same period.

Andara stands out as an excellent investment. You might find cheaper apartment but it won’t offer the same financial security.  It’s basic common sense, would you prefer to re-sell in a unique development where your competition for re-sale is a very small number of units or buy a cheaper apartment where your competition is in literally in the 1000’s?

It Makes Zense
Zeman knows that the Chinese are the future; the world is marketing products towards this changing demographic. China, as Dr. Zeman mentioned is about ‘face’, wanting the best of every product. Louis Vuitton in Macau made $85 million last year in bags and shoes, 30 minutes down the road fakes sell for a fraction of the price. Andara is the original and very much in demand, why travel 30 minutes down the road to buy “fake” when you can have the best.
