Kent Teen is a National Dance Champion!

Sept. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Jared traveled to Las Vegas to participate in the national finals as an elite dancer and represent Allegro Performing Arts Academy at West Coast Dance Explosion (WCDE) this past July 2011.  He participated in many classes with nationally recognized teachers such as Kim Wolfe and Eddie Strachan. He also participated in a performance with pop star Taylor Dayne.  West Coast Dance Explosion is one of the nation’s most competitive national competitions.

Jared earned his title as ‘Teen Male Elite Dancer’ by getting the highest accumulated score of his solo performance, a jazz audition as well as a ballet audition.  He has participated in the Elite dancer program four previous times and every year Jared competed at WCDE he moved up higher in the rankings. He placed 4th in 2010 as a Teen and worked extremely hard to warrant the top spot in 2011.

Jared says a highlight of the week-long event is that as an Elite dancer at WCDE he gets to meet other talented dancers from around the nation. "It is competition, but it is truly friendly competition. There are so many talented and gifted dancers out there!"

Jared was not the only dancer from Allegro that competed as an elite dancer.  Other Allegro dancers earned 4th place Junior Female Elite Dancer as well as the highscore teen soloist.

Jared says of his experience this summer,  "I've worked hard as a dancer for 6 years, and to win this competition is a great feeling. I am humbled and honored to finally grab the top spot!  Once I won, I was excited to call my teachers at Allegro to share the great news!"

All of his teachers are extremely proud of him but the directors of Allegro’s team, Tonya Goodwillie and Tiffany Miles-Brooks, were so excited to get the phone call from him shortly after he won.  ‘We were beyond excited for him and are so extremely proud of him.  Jared is an exceptional student and he deserves to be recognized for his hard work…and yes there were tears when we found out he won!’ says owner and co-director of the Allegro Precision Dance Company, Tonya Goodwillie.

The solo that Jared competed to help earn the title is a piece titled ‘All at Sea.’ It is a lyrical/contemporary piece that exhibits Jared’s technical skill, strength as well as the natural power of Jared’s abilities.  This piece was choreographed by Tiffany Miles-Brooks, who has choreographed for Jared for many years.

Jared trains in ballet, jazz, lyrical, tap and hip-hop at Allegro Performing Arts Academy and recently performed as the lead role in their ‘Footloose’ production.  He has received many accolades as a dancer throughout his years as a competitive dancer and his teachers know that there are so many exciting opportunities in Jared’s near future! Jared does plans to pursue his dance training beyond high school and attend college.
