2011 Mathworks Qualifying Test for Middle School Students

Math contest for middle school students, administered by Texas Mathworks at Texas State University

Sept. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- The Mathworks center at Texas State University is calling all interested middle school math club coaches to register their school for the Mathworks Qualifying Test.  The test offers a challenge for young students to do engaging math problems while having fun.

To register your school, simply go to www.txstate.edu/mathworks/camps/pmwc/mathworks-qualifying-test.html.  Registration is completely free, and the test is open to middle school students age 13 or younger.

The 2011 test is scheduled for Wednesday, November 2nd.  Each year, over 500 students from across Texas take the test.  Question topics range from higher-level problem solving to probability to advanced geometry.  Top-scoring students are invited to apply to the residential Junior Summer Math Camp (JSMC) program.  The test is also used to help select the Mathworks team that will compete in the international Primary Math World Contest (PMWC) in Hong Kong in the summer.  In nine years of attendance at the PMWC, the Mathworks team has been recognized as the top non-Asian team seven times.
