Science, Engineering and Mathematics Link Inc and Cool Girls Re-Establish Partnership

Sept. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- In the 2011-12 academic year Science, Engineering and Mathematics Link Inc (SEM Link) and Cool Girls Inc are re-establishing their community partnership, which was first established in the 2008-09 program year. Through its Math and Science Career Academy (MSCA), SEM Link will provide monthly hands on activities in math and science for the Cool Girls Club after-school program to 5 of the 9 sites. During the month of October in celebration of National Chemistry Week, SEM Link will provide activities to all of the sites. These activities will begin in September 2011 and end in April 2012
.
The goal of SEM Link’s Math and Science Career Academy (MSCA) is to expose students to math and science through hands-on activities, real-world applications and career exploration. The Cool Girls program participants will get an opportunity to engage with members of the Metro Atlanta STEM community that want to pass on their passion and expertise in STEM to the next generation. “Our partnership with SEM Link has proven extremely beneficial in the past. Cool girls were engaged in various activities, experiments and games that introduced them to the STEM disciplines” says Danielle N. Boyd, Cool Girls of Programs. “We are excited to partner again with SEM Link for more of our students to explore the wonderful world of STEM.” In addition to the activities in the Girls Club after school program, program participants will be invited to partake in SEM Link program activities.

Founded in 1989 in the ruins of East Lake Meadows, Cool Girls, Inc. is an award winning early intervention after school program dedicated to the empowerment of low-income girls. Cool Girls Club is a weekly after school program comprised of academic support and life skills development.  Cool Scholars provides academic support to girls in all core subject areas. Cool Girls staff and volunteer tutors work with girls to provide after school homework help.
