State of Maryland Sued by Private Child Support Agency for Failure to Release Child Support Info

Sept. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- (BALTIMORE) September 20, 2011 WeAreParents.org, a private child support and consulting agency, has filed suit against the State of Maryland, Child Support Enforcement Administration (CSEA) and Policy Studies, Inc. (PSI), which is the private contractor that manages the Baltimore City Office of Child Support Enforcement. The suit was filed against CSEA and PSI for failing to provide, duly authorized, client child support case information. The initial request has been pending since March 2011. Several requests for information have been made by WeAreParents.org since March 2011; however CSEA has yet to provide any information or explanation for not granting the request.
“If the State of Maryland can privatize its child support operations and contract a private company to represent its interests, why can’t parents and families do the same thing,” asks Keino Stephenson, who is the Founder and President of WeAreParents.org. “Many parents who need assistance with their child support case may not have the time, accessibility, or knowledge to attend to their child support case effectively.” WeAreParents.org provides child support case reviews, assessments, and feedback similar to the child support professionals at the local jurisdictions. The agency recognizes that the Child Support Enforcement Administration and PSI have great employees performing admirably, however it is simply impossible to touch every case that needs maintenance or assistance, every day. WeAreParents.org serves custodial and non-custodial parents, some of which may be behind on payments and are merely intimidated or afraid to make contact with the child support office. “We are simply a private partner with the State, mutually trying to achieve the same goal of getting child support to families that desperately need it, so families can thrive.” WeAreParents.org also emphasizes the mutual role of a mother and a father in the life of a child and provides co-parenting and mediation assistance to families. “We are very confident that this matter will end amicably so that we can continue serving families in Maryland.”
