Sept. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- On Thursday, September 15th, IDSI, along with more than 600 other volunteers in the Williamsburg area, participated in United Way’s 19th Annual Day of Caring. Volunteers were spread throughout the community accomplishing tasks such as painting, landscaping, and hurricane clean-up. Sixteen of IDSI’s Williamsburg office employees participated in the event.

IDSI employees were assigned to Avalon: a center for women and children, where they split up with other volunteers and tackled projects both inside and out. Indoors, the volunteers painted the walls and trim of two rooms while outside, volunteers split up further to tackle several projects including weeding, spreading mulch and planting flowers in the central common area, clearing the vegetable garden for use, and preparing the playground area for new mulch. The end results of all efforts indoors and out were astonishing. Avalon employees were very pleased with the final outcome.

The day of caring was a rewarding opportunity for everyone involved. “Working directly with the individuals at the United Way and Avalon responsible for hosting the event was truly an enjoyable experience. Zena, Kimberly, and Bridget were instrumental in the planning and execution of such a fulfilling experience for us,” Kerry Kelso, IDSI Program Manager. IDSI employees had the chance to improve the community in which they work, while getting to spend some time together outside of the office. The Day of Caring was truly a success in the eyes of every IDSI employee.
