The nominees include an exciting line up of over 35 companies from well-known names such as British Airways, Contiki, Intrepid Travel and Thomas Cook to smaller niche companies and industry newcomers such as Wicked Campers and Balkan Road Trip. The 19 award categories range from Best Tour Operator and Best Tour Itinerary to Best Festival Tour Operator and are being judged by TNT readers via a two-month online campaign at www.tntmagazine.com.
Lonely Planet’s Tom Hall will be presenting the awards. Tom is a regular commentator on travel news and events in the media, including The Guardian’s weekly Ask Tom live travel talks online, BBC Breakfast, BBC Radio One, Sky News, CNN and Six Music. He is the author of Lonely Planet’s Best Ever Travel Tips and was voted Online Travel Journalist of the Year at the 2010 Travel Press Awards.
The UK version of the event, which has for the last four years been a fixture of the travel awards scene in Sydney, Australia, is to be held at the stunning Shaka Zulu in The Stables Market, Camden. Home to the famous TV Soap awards and London’s largest South African restaurant, its 27,000 sq ft is filled with carved wooden murals, creating a dramatic backdrop, perfect for a travel awards ceremony.
Tickets for the TNT Travel Awards cost £100 each or £900 plus VAT for a table of 10. The event starts at 6.30pm and includes arrival drink and canapés, a sumptuous three-course meal and half a bottle of wine per person, all culminating with the presentation of the awards and a disco to celebrate.
