Expert on Resolving Legal Disputes Speaks on Saving Time and Money in Arbitrations

“With our legal system facing reduced resources, arbitration’s potential to resolve disputes out of the courtroom quickly and less expensively is increasingly important,” said Lester Savit, a partner at Jones Day and expert in arbitration.

Sept. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Lester Savit is one of a panel of arbitration experts who will be appearing at a key educational conference "Muscular Arbitration: Trimming the Fat Out of Arbitration" on Thursday, October 13, 2011. This event is co-sponsored by the American Arbitration Association and the University of California, Irvine School of Law. Similar conferences are being held nationwide to educate lawyers and arbitrators on how to maximize the time and money saved in arbitration proceedings.

“With our overburdened legal system facing reduced resources, arbitration’s potential to resolve disputes out of the courtroom more quickly and less expensively is increasingly important,” said Savit, a senior partner at Jones Day in Irvine and an American Arbitration Association arbitrator and mediator. “There are a number of ways which arbitration can accomplish cost savings including reducing the complexity of procedures, providing tighter time frames for things to occur and limiting the amount of discovery. The goal of this conference is to educate arbitrators and lawyers on how to maximize these efficiencies.”

“A particular area of interest for me is the cost-savings that can be achieved by managing discovery in arbitration proceedings. I will be addressing the philosophical bases and best practices in managing an arbitration to provide for the exchange of necessary information while reducing the burdens of discovery and potential for game-playing that is typical of courtroom litigation.”

Attendance at this conference is recommended for attorneys and arbitrators and continuing education credits are available.
