Trinity Center, Inc., Second Annual ‘Walk for Wellness, Run for Your Life’ Is October 29

Sept. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.  (September 19, 2011) – Downtown Winston-Salem is the location for Trinity Center’s Second Annual “Walk for Wellness, Run for Your Life,” a fundraising event with both competitive and recreational races, entertainment, food and fun-filled activities for individuals and families. The event will be held on the morning of October 29 to promote mental health awareness and support the programs of Trinity Center, Inc., a non-profit ecumenical center that serves the mental health needs of the Winston-Salem community.

“We invite everyone in the community to join WXII’s Lanie Pope who will emcee and participate in this year’s ‘Walk for Wellness, Run for Your Life,’” says Lynn J. Brown, Executive Director of Trinity Center. “This is a perfect activity for families, groups, recreational walkers and runners, serious runners — and anyone who just wants to enjoy exercise and fellowship. We are so thankful for everyone who helps make this event a success.”

The race is directed by Twin City Track Club. Early registration pricing ends October 22. Participants may register online or by mail until Oct. 26 and by phone or in person up until the day of the race. Those who do not want to walk or run can participate in Cheer for Peers for $15. All of the race events begin at Trinity Center, located at 640 Holly Avenue, and include:

•   8 a.m. — The Dynamic Quest Mile ($20, $15 early registration) is a competitive mile run that is new to the Triad and provides serious runners with an elite challenge.
•   8:30 a.m. — The Fun Run ($10) is a short, easy race for children and families.
•   8:45 a.m. —The 5k Walk for Wellness, Run for Your Life ($25, $20 early registration) is 5K course that travels through Downtown Winston-Salem.

Participants who want to do both the Dynamic Quest Mile and the 5K can register for both ($40, $30 early registration). The first 300 registrants for the event receive a t-shirt, and all registrants are eligible for prizes.

Major sponsors for this year’s fundraiser include Team Carol; HanesBrands; Dynamic Quest; LuAnne Wood Consulting; Cavanaugh; Wood, Rabil & Peake, LLP; Collins Commercial Properties; JDL Castle Company; Full Life Counseling; Living Arts Institute; Bethesda Eye Center and Fleet Feet. Sponsorship support has also been received from private donors.

Trinity Center is a 501(c)3, not-for-profit organization that accepts donations, which are put into the Betty Talbert Client Assistance Fund to help clients who are uninsured, unemployed or otherwise unable to pay the full fee to receive services. Trinity Center provides a holistic approach to individual counseling, marriage/couples counseling, psychological testing, educational testing, spiritual direction and psychiatric care for adults and children.

“Last year’s ‘Walk for Wellness, Run for Your Life’ raised more than $3,000 to support individuals and families in need of mental health services who did not have the means to pay,” Brown says. “Our goal this year is to double that, which can go even further in meeting a growing community need.”
