“Bye Bye Liver: The Key West Drinking Play” Calling Actors, Actresses, Musicians

Sept. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- The Pub Theater Co., in conjunction with Highway Key Touring, will be hosting preliminary auditions Wednesday, October 5 through Sunday, October 9 for “Bye Bye Liver: The Key West Drinking Play.”  The show calls for talented comedic actors and actresses between the ages of 21 and 40, as well as musicians with a background in comedy or improvisation. Rehearsals are set to begin in November with a target opening date in December at the Hog’s Breath Cabaret.  Ensemble members are paid per performance. Weekend availability required.  

“Bye Bye Liver” (BBL) is a uniquely-formatted sketch comedy revue that employs scripted pieces, improvisational elements and audience-participatory games to create an intoxicatingly interactive experience. A celebration of the human love affair with nightlife, alcohol and the morning after, BBL has been an established feature on Chicago’s comedy scene since 2006. Since then, BBL’s signature cocktail of laughter and booze has splashed well beyond the borders of The Windy City. In addition to Chicago and St. Louis, productions are ongoing in Milwaukee, St. Paul and Toronto with expansion into Philadelphia, Key West and other comedy-thirsty markets underway.

More akin to a growing, breathing organism than a conventional stage play, the BBL format draws from the collective comedic consciousness of actors and writers in five cities who share material that is original, relatable, and adaptable to the strengths of its locally-cast ensembles.

Auditions will be supervised by Highway Key Touring’s Casey Scott, a St. Louis native and long-time Key West resident, who got involved with The Pub Theater Co. last summer when he was tapped to direct the St. Louis “Bye Bye Liver” production.  A Chicago-trained actor, director and drinker, Scott related immediately with the BBL playbook. Within six weeks of opening, the St. Louis BBL show began a streak of sold-out performances that lasted well into spring. It attracted sponsors, added a series in a second venue and is celebrating 1 year in the market this week, making it one of the longest running comedies in St. Louis memory.  

Casey Scott began providing independent booking and promotional services to clients worldwide in 2001. In 2004 he launched Highway Key Touring and relocated to Key West, where he continues to maintain a seasonal office. Highway Key Touring has been responsible for bringing Key West some of its most notable touring bands, including Albert Castiglia, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Big Bill Morganfield and Spam Allstars.
