MORE ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

Our new season starts with the music of Finnish composer Jean Sibelius and his enigmatic Symphony No. 4. Haunting, mysterious, and intensely moving, this rarely-heard work is one of the composer's greatest achievements.

Also on the program is the exciting "Othello" Overture by Antonin Dvorak, a mature masterpiece from the ever-popular Czech composer.

NYC composer Michael Patterson wrote his jazz-inflected Concerto for Saxophone for virtuoso soloist Rick VanMatre. We take great pride in presenting this lovely work to you in its first New York performance.

MORE ABOUT OUR SOLOIST: RICK VANMATRE

Saxophonist Rick VanMatre is one of the most sought-after musicians on the current jazz and avant-garde scenes. He has performed with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Manhattan Transfer, John Pizzarelli, and the Duke Ellington and Woody Herman orchestras. The Chicago Star wrote that he is “without comparison; his technique exact, yet smooth, his expression poignant and personal.”
