Sept. 19, 2011 - PRLog -- There are certain areas within the bathroom where real focal points can be made, those areas are the backsplash areas, bathroom countertops and shower areas where new and innovative tile styles can be used to really revamp the bathroom area. Home owners can keep the body of the bathroom walls neutral and use ceramic tiles or porcelain tiles and then make real focal points of the shower area, backsplash area and around the bath.
One really current and up to date design is glass tile backsplashes, glass tiles can be used in different colours to really brighten up this area of the bathroom. Glass tiles are great at creating contemporary themes and a glass tile backsplash area will certainly stand out and make an impression.  There are lots of different types of glass tiles in which to choose from as well as numerous colours and design styles. If your backsplash area is particularly small, glass tiles can really help bring it to life by reflecting the light beautifully and enlarging the area.

The shower area is another place where focal points can be made and there are lots of tile materials in which to choose from. Marble tiles are the more expensive wall tile option but if you keep the rest of your bathroom conservative, a little more expense can be spent in this one particular area. Marble wall tiles come in many variations and sizes and will certainly add an impressive shower space.  There are also different colour variations when it comes to marble tiles and white marble tiles are very popular for bathroom areas. Any marble tiles installed within bathrooms will almost certainly be sealed in order to protect them from any water and moisture.

If you have a particularly small bathroom there are lots of design styles that can be used to bring your bathroom to life.  As mentioned above, glass tiles work brilliantly at opening up small spaces and they can be used in other areas too. Glass tiles work really well in shower areas and countertops. Floor tiles can also be arranged in different patterns that will give the illusion of a larger space. Ceramic tiles can be installed using many different pattern variations and using a diagonal pattern will give the impression of a larger space.
The colour and design of your tiles will also really play a part in the appearance of space, darker colours will absorb the light and make the bathroom appear smaller and it is always advisable to use light pastel shades in smaller bathrooms, this helps to reflect back the light and make the bathroom appear more spacious. Darker colours can be used in bathrooms and are done so successfully but for very small bathrooms, always try and use lighter pastel shades which will work brilliantly.

Smaller bathrooms also work well with less busier wall tile patterns, if too many conflicting wall tile patterns are used the bathroom will appear busy and cluttered and for smaller bathrooms, this may make the bathroom appear smaller than it really is.
