Sept. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Seventy years ago, Naval aviation machinist, Hal Olsen, used his artistic talents to paint morale-boosting nose art on the sides of WWII bombers, and today, those same images are being used to once again boost morale for America’s deployed service members through the release of the 2012 “Pin-Ups for Vets” calendar which also benefits hospitalized Veterans.  Olsen’s original nose art paintings will serve as an introduction to the popular WWII style calendar of the current military’s favorite pin-up girl, Gina Elise.

Dubbed by America’s deployed troops and Veterans as “the calendar angel”, Pin-Ups For Vets Founder and pin-up model, Gina Elise says, “I am thrilled to feature Hal Olsen’s original WWII nose art images alongside my pin-up photos in this year’s 6th annual Pin-Ups For Vets calendar.  Hal Olsen is widely accepted to be America’s last living nose artist from WWII.  His nose art creation, entitled, “Accentuate the Positive” was published in the first edition of National Geographic Magazine.  He is a national treasure to nose art fans across America.”

This year’s Pin-Ups For Vets calendar will be sold across the U.S. and around the world to raise funds to support VA hospital programs caring for America’s ill and injured Veterans.  Pin-Ups For Vets donates several thousands of dollars annually to purchase state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment for physical, occupational, and cognitive therapy. Gina Elise also travels across the U.S. to make personal bedside visits and deliver appreciation gifts to thousands of hospitalized Veterans.  Her surprise visits often bring tears of joy and much surprise to Veterans and recovering troops.

The Pin-Ups For Vets calendars are also shipped in care packages to help boost the morale of thousands of service members deployed around the world, who often tear out the calendar pages to decorate their tents and barracks.

With honors and awards from the CA Jaycees Foundation, the CA Jr. Chamber of Commerce, the L.A. Business Journal, the the Daily Points of Light Foundation, and a 2012 VW Beetle gifted from Oprah Winfrey, the Pin-Ups For Vets non-profit organization is a one-of-a-kind project in the U.S. Besides serving Veterans and troops, Gina Elise has become a spokesperson for Veterans’ healthcare and also uses her platform to encourage others to volunteer at their local VA hospitals.
