Frisco Area Republican Women's Group Kicks Off Fall Political Season

Keynote speaker State Representative Ken Paxton, FARW Group unveils new website

Sept. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- The Frisco Area Republican Women’s Group (FARW) recently kicked off the fall political season with a September luncheon at the Hilton Garden Inn, in Frisco. The luncheon unveiled the group’s new website www.farw.org, introduced updated bylaws, and heard the “State of the State” report from State Representative Ken Paxton, for District 70, which covers McKinney, Prosper, Allen, and a large part of Frisco.

The new FARW website will enhance communication to current members, prospective members, and will be a valuable resource to learn about candidates through newsletters and web content. The site will provide convenience to join, pay membership dues, RSVP for meetings and luncheons, as well as provide updates on the latest political events.

Keynote speaker, Paxton, reported on the “State of the State” to the 62 guests and members present. He shared that the recently passed Voter ID Law would “ensure integrity at the ballot box” and explained that critics of the law, however, remain worried that the Texas law will discourage voting.

“Another big thing for state politicians,” explained Paxton “was the decision earlier this year, for Amazon to move a 2000-job facility to South Carolina instead of Texas, because of the e-commerce tax.”  Technically, e-commerce companies have avoided collecting sales tax in states where they have no physical presence, however Amazon actually has a distribution facility in Irving, Texas, and also bought Texas-based Woot, last summer.
State lawmakers passed an amendment during a special session to force online retailers like Amazon to collect sales taxes.  The rule takes effect on January 1, 2012.  “Hearing a major employer leaving the state is not the intention of the state, no one wants to drive jobs out of the state and cause a negative impact on our economy,” said Paxton.

Michael Quinn Sullivan, president and CEO of Empower Texans, which focuses on Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, will be the keynote speaker at next month’s FARW luncheon, held at Isabella’s Italian Restaurant, on October 11, 11:30-1:00.

The FARW Group promotes an informed electorate through political education and increases the effectiveness of women in government through active political participation. The Frisco Area Republican Women’s Group is one of the oldest, active Republican clubs in North Texas, serving members from Denton and Collin Counties and is currently accepting new members.
