Akron Ohio Resident Launches Grassroots Effort to Save Landfills Across America through giving

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep. 16, 2011 - Today, an Akron Ohio resident is launching a not for profit web site called the reGives TM Network.  The reGives TM Network (http://www.regives.com) is a grassroots movement to save items that have value from our landfills by connecting local people in your community who have something that they no longer need with other local people who could still use it. The items are required to be 100% free with no strings attached and you must pick the items up yourself locally in an effort to conserve energy and resources.

Landfills across this beautiful nation are filling up at an alarming rate leaving behind a dark legacy for our children to deal with that is afflicted with potentially severe environmental, economic, and public health problems.

Every year, the United States generates approximately 230 million tons of "trash"--about 4.6 pounds per person per day. Less than one-quarter of it is recycled; the rest is burnt or buried in landfills. With a little forethought, we could reuse or recycle more than 70 percent of the landfilled waste, which includes millions of items that could have been reused.  

Drew Auman, the founder of the reGives TM Network, urges local residents to join this community of people who are giving and getting items for free.  He states “It’s about reuse, it’s about saving the landfills, it’s about saving the planet and it’s a 100% free service to our community.  Let’s get this grassroots movement going today by giving an item that you no longer need.”
