Singer/Songwriter Jon Shain of Durham, will perform the first set starting at 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. with an acoustic mix of Beatles songs. "I'm really happy to be involved in this benefit - it's for a great cause and it's going to be a great evening of music," Shain said. "Everyone loves animals and the Beatles - it would be hard to find someone who doesn't! So come on out." http://www.jonshain.com/
At 8 p.m. Terry Dorsey, who is leading the Guardians of Angels Humane Society in developing a cat and dog Adoption Center, will give awards and a presentation. http://www.guardiansofangels.org.
Starting at 8:30, the Beatles cover band, The BackBeat from Chapel Hill will take the stage for the rest of the evening. June 2011 marked the band's 10th anniversary. Their first performance was playing at the opening of the Linda McCartney photo exhibit at the Ackland Art Museum in Chapel Hill in June 2001. http://www.unc.edu/~
The September 24 event at The General Store Cafe is $20 per person and $30 per couple to benefit Guardians of Angels.
When asked about his motivation for creating an Adoption Center, Terry Dorsey said, "Even when done humanely, the euthanasia of any animal is sad especially when so many are adoptable. And it's well known that having pets helps us humans lead longer, healthier and happier lives."
In 2010, and despite valiant efforts by rescue groups and the Chatham County shelter, about 5 out of 10 dogs and 8 out of 10 cats were euthanized.
The Guardians of Angels' Adoption Center will help cats and dogs have enough time to be placed in life-long homes. The proposed center will include a warm pet and people friendly environment and will give adoptable, elderly and handicapped animals a place to thrive until they meet their life long guardians. Students, senior citizens and those training in the vet care field could help make it a thriving environment for animals. Plans also include a triage center for wildlife that would provide education to help with injured wildlife. http://www.guardiansofangels.org
