Sept. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Founder’s Day, on 15 September, marked the day the world’s largest direct seller was founded by David H. McConnell. McConnell started up the company after realising his female customers preferred his home-made perfume samples, which he offered as free incentives, over the books he was selling.  Avon today – whose name was inspired by McConnell’s trip to, and love for, Stratford-Upon-Avon – now operates in over 100 markets and turned over $10.9 billion dollars in 2010.

Angela Tucker comments:

“I’m sure David H McConnell never dreamed 125 years ago that he had started up what would become one of the world’s best known and loved companies.  Over the years Avon has touched the lives of millions of women – whether through our products, the earnings opportunity Avon offers or its support for women’s causes.  We’re now looking to the next stage in our evolution to ensure we continue to be the company that stands for beauty, innovation and, above all, for women.”

Jeremy Baker, Affiliate Professor at ESCP Europe Business School, says:

“Avon as a retail brand chimes with so many women across classes, generations and even continents.  This is thanks not only to the affordable quality product lines on offer, but also the fact that it has firmly established itself as a company for women, facilitating entrepreneurship and supporting women’s causes.”

Women across the world are joining in the 125 year celebrations on Avon Founder’s Day. For more information about Avon’s 125th anniverary visit www.avon.uk.com.
