Sept. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- Barefoot running shoes are experiencing a surge of popularity nowadays.
The fact that barefoot running shoes are healthier for the human body have been widely publicized. In fact, it has also been proved scientifically by Daniel Lieberman, a professor at Harvard University.

According to his researches, the movement conducted by minimalist running shoes used also by barefoot running lovers is more appropriate to the human body. One reason for this is that we have evolved in a way that we don’t need any footwear at all to protect ourselves from the shock caused by every footstep.

In theory, the running gait when using regular shoes is harmful for the runner because the shock absorbed by the heel is heavier than if the runner had used minimalist running shoes. The impact force of the full body weight is conducted into a vertical line and channelled into the heel.

When someone runs barefoot or uses barefoot running shoes, his/her body gait changes, causing a change in the posture of the body as well. The heavy heel strike disappears! Instead of the point of your foot making the first contact with the ground, it is the ball of the foot that touches the ground at first, following by the arch and toes.
This particular order of touching the ground has a rotational effect on the impact force: while not being absorbed by only one area of your foot, it is channelled throughout the foot in its integrity.

And you have certainly experienced this yourself if you are a regular barefoot running practicioner. You will quickly make the difference if you still haven’t.
However, there is something you should pay attention to – and that is something many of my runner friends got my attention to as well: that is barefoot running shoes often need to have an extra degree of protection.

Especially while running in urban environments or in a forest, where the ground is invaded by spiky little rocks and plants.

That is where the absolute best minimalist running shoes come: the Vibram fivefingers.
While still keeping the healthy benefits of barefoot running shoes, the vibrams also offer its user a solution to counter downside of barefoot running.
What is so different with the Vibrams?

There is only one difference. But it is a crucial aspect of this model of shoes, and this aspect alone made it so popular. It actually rose the Vibrams to a status of a worldwide Italian phenomenon. If you pay attention to shoes’ soles, you will notice that the manufacturer has added a layer of sticky rubber.

That modification ensures two things: not only the runner enjoys a better traction so that he/she runs with less effort, but it also protects the feet from being hurt by heat, cold and debris.

Of course, the unique design of the Vibram Fivefingers still ensures that the foot moves more naturally, as if you were running barefoot!
They are the best  running shoes I have ever tried. Try them yourself, it is just pure comfort.
