Sept. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- Mosaic tiles are simply small tiles placed in an orderly pattern or design or small mosaic tiles places together to create a larger picture and design. Many tile stores have an assortment of mosaic tiles usually sold on a sheet for easier installation but mosaic tiles can be used in other ways.

Mosaic tiles can be used to decorative design on furniture too, such as tables, garden chairs and tables and mirrors within the home. They have been used for centuries as a decorative design and although mosaic tiles patterns were very random and unorganised centuries ago, they still played an important role.

Home owners use mosaic tiles very successfully to decorate borders around tile edges, around windows and in backsplash areas to create style and design, they are easy to install but if you are going to use mosaics to create a larger image or picture, obviously the job will take longer.  Mosaic tiles can be any material and lots of different materials are used such as marble, ceramic, glass and many natural stone tiles.

There are many mosaic tile patterns on the internet that are easy to follow and the patterns range from small simple designs to large elaborate designs. Home owners can take the chance to really create a unique and individual design that is unique to you and your design preferences.

If you haven’t experienced mosaic tiles before or have just used them in small quantities but want to use them on a larger scale, take the time to have a look at the different patterns and styles available on the internet and get a good idea of the kind of styles you like best. If you are inexperienced, it is always better to go for simpler designs and styles in order to gain confidence and then bigger and more elaborate styles can be attempted later on.
Glass is a very popular material to use for mosaic tiles and glass offers a unique design style, Mosaic glass tiles have the ability to transform dull dark spaces and bring them to life, glass is also great at opening up small spaces and glass mosaic tiles used on a wall design can be a real focal point. Similarly home owners can use glass mosaic tiles on a backsplashes area and use other tile materials on the wall such as ceramic tiles; this creates a real focal point within the kitchen or bathroom.

There are two ways in which to install mosaic tiles, the direct method and the indirect methods. The direct method involves sticking the mosaic tiles directly to the substrate and the indirect method is to apply the mosaic tiles on a sheet with paper backing, mounting tape. The direct method is great for small projects whilst the indirect method is better for larger projects.

Home owners should source all materials before embarking on any mosaic tile pattern and get as much advice as they can, there are many sources of information on the internet and some really good mosaic tile books on the market, many of the mosaic pattern books are for beginners and they cover everything from the materials you need to the pattern you would like.  If you are interested on creating your own mosaic tile pattern and design and are a first timer, start with a small project and when you have gained confidence, you can tackle a more challenging design.
