Health Worries Inspired a Career in Health & Fitness

Sarah Eglington did not expect to discover a new career path when she was researching eating plans to help her cope with her psoriasis and high cholesterol.

Sept. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- Sarah Eglington didn’t set out to embark on a new career when she trawled the internet to research different eating plans to help her cope with her psoriasis and high cholesterol two years ago.

Sarah takes up the story:

"I was getting fed up of being prescribed various pills and potions for the long-term conditions I was suffering from and feeling worse because of their side-effects. So, about five years ago, I started doing some research into my conditions and experimenting with different eating plans. The improvements to my health were amazing. I found the whole area fascinating so started to look around for a part-time course in a bid to further my knowledge."

Searching the internet, Sarah came across Premier Training International’s Certificate in Nutritional Advice course. Sarah continued:

"It was a distance learning course in which you had two years to complete so allowed me to fit it in around my full-time job. By the time I’d finished the course I was completely hooked, so I upgraded to the Premier Diploma in Nutritional Therapy and started studying soon after."

As with the other distant learning courses offered by Premier Training International, Sarah found that the flexibility of the course suited her perfectly.

"I couldn’t afford to give up my career to do the course. I was, and still am a full-time marketing manager. Having the modular coursework that you can fit in around other work and the pre-planned clinical weekends allowed me to do this. It’s hard work and takes a lot of dedication and commitment, but the rewards far outweigh the few sacrifices you have to make." Sarah added.

Having graduated in March 2011, Sarah has now set-up her own clinical practice, Lime Nutrition and Health, and has already started seeing clients.

"The course fully prepares you to start seeing clients from the moment you graduate. Setting up my own business allows me to fit it in around my current full-time job. At the moment, I run clinics two mornings a week before work and two evenings a week after work but hope to build it up more as the business grows."

"Being your own boss and being in control of what you do is very empowering. But the most rewarding part of it is making a difference to other people’s lives. I was on such a high after seeing my first client and couldn’t believe that someone would want to pay me for doing something I enjoy so much. Getting a text from a client saying ‘thanks for helping me, I feel better than I’ve done for years’ is ultimately what it’s all about."

"I’d highly recommend the course to anyone thinking of setting up their own nutritional therapy practice and I’d advise them to talk to everyone about what you do. It’s amazing how much business you get just from telling people what you do. I’ve built partnerships, gained clients, got discounts and even got freebies."

"You should also have a ‘friends and family’ rate in mind, this is the best advice I’ve ever been given. It takes the awkwardness out of the conversation when you’re asked if you offer a discount and more importantly, stops you from offering anything for free. I give friends and family a third off what I normally charge and they are always more than happy with that."

"Research is crucial; I spend every spare minute I have researching for my business. It allows me to stay one step ahead of the competition; generate new and innovative ideas; and be in touch with my business on a daily basis. I log any relevant and interesting information I find and use it in my business planning."
