Keith Wyatt Rocks Out with Fretlight

Professional guitarist and teacher, Keith Wyatt, says Fretlight solves a basic problem of learning to play the guitar.

PRLog - Sep. 13, 2011 - RENO, Nev. (September 13, 2011) —Optek Music Systems Inc. (www.fretlight.com), makers of the Fretlight® Guitar, today announced that famed guitarist and Musicians Institute instructor, Keith Wyatt, is working with them to help create a whole new generation of guitar players. A professional player for more than 30 years, Wyatt can be found rocking out on Fretlight guitars in a series of newly released videos.

“Making sense of the neck is one of the biggest obstacles I find with my students at Musicians Institute,” said Wyatt. “Fretlight is an interesting take on guitar education because it’s a way of conveying something that no one else has been able to present so far. With Fretlight the information is right on the neck so you are looking at the guitar and seeing the information where it should be.”

The Fretlight Guitar has an interactive learning system cleverly hidden beneath the fretboard of a standard guitar.  When connected to a PC or Mac, LED’s automatically show a player the exact fingering positions needed to play songs, riffs, chords and scales in real time. Fretlight Studio software, which is free with every guitar, allows a player to slow down the tempo, loop specific parts, and improvise with virtually any scale over custom progressions, allowing players of all levels to learn over 10 times faster than traditional methods. With the addition of the industry-leading tablature editing software, Guitar Pro 6 Fretlight Ready, a Fretlight Guitar user can download tabs via the internet and watch them instantly come to life right under their fingers.

“I look forward to helping the team in the years to come to develop Fretlight into a guitar teaching and learning methodology,” said Wyatt.

Wyatt has been a professional guitar player, teacher and writer for more than 30 years. In addition to touring and recording as the guitarist for the LA-based band the Blasters, he is the former Director of the Guitar Program and Vice President of Programs for Musicians Institute, one of the most widely-recognized contemporary music schools in the country. Wyatt is also the author of over 20 best-selling instructional guitar DVDs. Behind the camera, he has developed a number of multimedia titles, directed dozens of music instruction videos for other artists, has written popular music instruction books and contributes regularly as a columnist to for Guitar World Magazine. Over the years, he has also performed with a range of artists including Albert Collins, Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce and Robben Ford.
