Sept. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- The University of Minnesota’s Office for Business & Community Economic Development will offer three Global Entrepreneurship workshops. Each of these free, afterschool workshops is designed to introduce youth to the entrepreneurship world and enhance leadership skills. These exciting programs will begin Monday, October 24 and run through early December.

Entrepreneurial Entrées is geared towards students with interest in cooking, nutrition and the food industry. Held Thursdays at the University’s UROC building (2001 Plymouth Ave. N), this workshop blends culinary arts with restaurant management, teaching students how to healthfully cook new dishes and effectively run a restaurant. Throughout the program, students will work in small groups to create an original restaurant concept, including details such as menu offerings, location, price point and thematic touches. The workshop will end with an Iron Chef-style showdown, after which the team with the tastiest cuisine and the most creative concept will be named the winner!

Strong Suit: Sports-Minded Entrepreneurs will show students the various ways they can turn their passion for athletics into a viable career. Every Monday, students will focus on one sport-related profession, as well as participate in an interactive entrepreneurship lesson. Guest speakers with real-life experience in the career of the week will stop in to share their stories and answer questions. Students will also receive a behind-the-scenes tour of TCF Bank Stadium’s new, state of the art facilities! Working in teams, participants will be given time each week to use the information they learn over the course of the program to work on their final project: the development of a business model for an innovative sports product or service. Strong Suit is held at the BCED University Office Plaza (2221 University Ave. SE).

MyProduct Inventors’ Challenge provides students with the chance to create new products from existing products and services, showing them that it’s not always necessary to invent something totally new to be an entrepreneur! Each Tuesday at UROC, myProduct Inventors’ Challenge will allow students to become entrepreneurs in their own way. After reimagining everyday items to find new purposes, design team will present their ideas in front of a host panel of local business leaders. This workshop is a perfect fit for youth with especially lively imaginations!

All interested Twin Cities high schoolers are welcome and encouraged to participate in one, two or all three workshops! Please follow this link to register online for free:
