Sept. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- DETROIT, M.I. – Michigan Buick dealers may have heard in March that the NCAA, Turner Sports and CBS Sports were joining together to create the Buick Human Highlight Reel. The Reel will include story collections of community service, and the far-reaching connections created by former student-athletes.
Athletes may be looked at only as sport stars and fans may miss the important and inspiring stories of student-athletes dedicating themselves to the community and causes.
“Through the Buick Human Highlight Reel, our brand is able to connect with college sports fans in a meaningful way by celebrating human achievements on and off the field,” said Tony DiSalle, U.S. vice president of Buick marketing in a GM press release. “By sharing these true stories, Buick and our partners hope to inspire others to go above and beyond to help others achieve their fullest potential in life.”
Michigan Buick dealers heard the official premier will begin this Saturday during Fox Network’s college football coverage to start off the college football season with new videos.
Aside from the Reel, there are other parts that will be included on the Buick Human Highlight Reel website such as a section called “Tell Us Your Story,” where fans may share their own stores about how their own lives had been affected or helped by former NCAA student-athletes with other visitors.
Some of the former student-athletes being showcased in the Buick Human Highlight Reel videos include former college football stars Nnamdi Asomugha, Alan Page and all-American wrestler Hudson Taylor.
Asomugha started the Asomugha Foundation to help disadvantaged youth and underprivileged orphans and widows in Africa, while Page became a Minnesota Supreme Court associate justice and founded the Page Education Foundation. Taylor launched Athlete Ally to encourage athletes, coaches, parents, fans and other members of the sports community to put a stop to homophobic bullying in sports.
All of these stories and more will be at NCAA.com/Buick in their full versions.
Michigan Buick dealers may be proud to see what student-athletes have accomplished off the field, court or otherwise. There is much more to sports than just the games, and the Buick Human Highlight Reel will showcase inspiring stories.
